MASKED 1 / LIMITED EDITION
Last year for the first time I started to create digital illustrations based on my ink drawings, and i am really enjoying this new technique for me.
Recently i decided to release a new limited edition print of one of the pieces i’ve been working. Entitle “Masked #1”, this illustration is part of “The unknown”, a series of paintings and drawings i am working on, inspired by different characters and masks from different cultures of the world, where the mask creates a new identity of the person who wears it, to perform rituals, social and religious practices.
This illustration is inspired by the japanesse Kitsune mask. During the ancient times, the Japanese community closely lived with foxes, reason that foxes play an important role in religion and folklore.
Shinto, the native religion of the country, regards foxes as messengers of Inari, the god of agriculture and fertility that some believe to also appear in the shape of a fox. As much, shrines that primarily pay tribute to Inari feature several fox statues where people may leave appropriate offerings to please both the messengers and the god.
