BALIDIVERSITY
Gold Coast, Australia. 2015
Commission mural for Telstra Gold Coast, curated by 19Karen Contemporary art gallery.
After a long trip around Indonesia, I landed in Gold coast, Australia where I painted this mural heavily influenced by Balinese culture.
This mural is part of a series that i am currently working in, based on the idea of a possible artificial micro ecosystem, mixing organic, geometric and abstract forms inspired by different ecosystems of places i am visiting, including colors, plants, landscapes, people, customs and patterns from the pure nature of the place and how the native people include this on they day life, rituals and culture.
After a long and transformative journey through the captivating landscapes of Indonesia, I finally found myself standing on the shores of Gold Coast, Australia, feeling a profound sense of connection to the world around me. The sensation of awe and inspiration washed over me, like a gentle breeze carrying whispers of the vibrant cultural experiences I had been fortunate enough to encounter on my travels.
Buoyed by this newfound appreciation for the Balinese culture, a burning desire to express my deep admiration manifested within me, igniting a creative spark. Fueling my artistic endeavors, I embarked on a mural that would pay homage to the richness and vibrancy of these traditions that had touched my soul.
This particular artwork holds a special place within a larger series that I am currently undertaking. The series, inspired by the concept of an artificial micro ecosystem, serves as a creative exploration of the intricate interplay between nature and culture. Each brushstroke in my mural is an attempt to capture the essence of this interplay, encompassing the organic, geometric, and abstract forms that breathe life into these mesmerizing landscapes.
Drawing inspiration from the colors, plants, landscapes, people, customs, and patterns that compose the pure natural beauty of each location, my artwork seeks to embody the essence of how these elements seamlessly intertwine with the daily life, rituals, and culture of the native people. It is a celebration of the harmonious coexistence between nature and culture, where each element enhances and enriches the other.
In essence, my art aims to convey the sensory tapestry that emerges when nature and culture dance hand in hand. It captures the vibrant energy that radiates from the traditions of Balinese culture, soothingly entwined with the unique rhythms of the Australian environment. Through my mural, I hope to invite viewers into this world of interconnectedness, encouraging them to immerse themselves in the kaleidoscope of colors, shapes, and symbols that celebrate the beauty of diversity and the harmonious coexistence that is possible when nature and culture converge.
