DÍSIR: ANCESTRAL PROTECTORS
In homage to the enigmatic and protective female spirits known as the "Dísir" from Norse Mythology, I have painted three portrait that encapsulate their essence as guardian entities. These artworks seek to revere the timeless significance of the Dísir while also drawing parallels to the modern-day embodiment of their nurturing and guardianship in women worldwide.
METAMORPHOSIS
The initial painting portrays a woman donning a mask adorned with a sinuous serpent, a symbolic representation of the Nordic Witch Rune of transformation. This emblem alludes to the profound changes inherent in shedding one's old skin, signifying the healing, growth, and evolution that emerge from such renewal.
VEILED KNOWLEDGE
In the second artwork, a woman is depicted veiled behind a mask featuring a bright lock, evoking the enigmatic allure of hidden secrets and safeguarding. Her hands are embellished with vibrant hues, inviting a deeper, more tactile connection. This piece delves into the introspective nature of knowledge and the intricate art of its transmission.
ETERNAL WISDOM
The third painting captures a woman shrouded in a mask embellished with a key, an emblem of knowledge and the capacity to unlock life's myriad opportunities. Further embellished with the Fleur de Lis, symbolizing the rebirth of spring and harmonious spiritual equilibrium, this artwork epitomizes inner balance and the pursuit of wisdom.
In each painting, the women sport a cosmic depiction in their hair, symbolizing boundless potential and infinite possibilities. These artworks pay tribute to the timeless and abstract yet resonant concept of the Dísir and their ever-relevant role as protectors and sources of wisdom.
